YOGA + TRE®

This deeply restorative class combines gentle yoga asana with somatic shaking to help release deep muscular patterns of tension, stress, and trauma from the body. Self-induced shaking is a natural way to help calm the nervous system and bring the body back into a state of balance. It is based on Dr. David Berceli’s Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®).

TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA

What is Yoga?

Yoga originated in India around 5,000 years ago as a spiritual discipline intended to help people find liberation and relief from suffering. Yoga is a Sanskrit word, formed by the verbal root word yuj, which means to yoke or unite and is practiced as a system to harmonize and unify the body, mind, and spirit.

A growing body of scientific evidence is now backing what the ancient yoga practitioners already knew – that yoga has the power to help us heal.

My classes are informed by my teachers and mentors including Annie Carpenter, Jill Miller, Hala Khouri, Kyra Haglund, Richard Miller and Susanna Barkataki.

Benefits of Yoga

  • Improves flexibility, balance and strength
  • Can help relive pain and increase mobility
  • Supports stress relief
  • Can significantly increase heart rate variability (HRV), which is an important measure of heart health and your body's ability to adapt to stress
  • May improve mental health and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety
  • May help reduce symptoms of PTSD
  • May reduce inflammation
  • Supports better sleep

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®)

"If trauma can occur to every human being then a healing process must be available to everyone too." –Dr. David Berceli, PhD & Founder of TRE®

What is TRE®?

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.

Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of somatic shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

Reported Benefits of TRE®

  • Less worry and anxiety
  • Reduction of PTSD symptoms
  • More energy and endurance
  • Reduced muscle and back pain
  • Increased flexibility
  • Healing of old injuries
  • Relief from chronic medical conditions
  • Greater emotional resiliency
  • Improved relationships
  • Better sleep
